EquiSept | Broad-spectrum Disinfectant for Equine Premises | ||
Broad-spectrum Disinfectant for Equine Premises *Efficient *Economical * Eco-friendly EquiSept® is a broad-spectrum disinfectant available in an easy-to-use, effervescent tablet format. It has been developed from intensive work by the Irish Equine Centre, is active against Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi and has been designed specifically for the disinfection of all surfaces, equipment and atmospheres with which horses may come in contact, including stabling, transport, equipment, footwear baths etc. Disinfecting equine premises, as part of a regular prevention programme, will generally eliminate fungal episodes. Fungi and mycotoxins have recently assumed major significance and are now being regularly diagnosed in Poor Performance Syndromes. Mycotoxins are chemical substances produced by fungi and can have a devastating effect on horses. Fungi and their spores are everywhere in nature, even in normal looking hay or straw, and can contaminate all surfaces in stables. For example, Aspergillus and its toxin, Aflatoxin, is now regularly isolated, often having an adverse impact on the performances of equines. In addition, afflictions like COPD, Enteritis, Liver Damage, Inability to Perform and Infertility can occur due to fungal infections alone, without any bacterial or viral complications; these conditions often result in severe and long-lasting damage. Following disinfection the resulting improvement in the horse’s environment should also lead to a major reduction in incidents such as glanders, scours, nasal discharges, which are caused by other microorganisms – e.g. Actinobacillus mallei, Rhodococcus equi, Streptococcus equi, Salmonella spp. etc. INDICATIONS FOR USE: CLEAN FIRST! It is not possible to disinfect dirt so, before disinfection remove all dirt and debris; scrape and brush all surfaces (vacuum if necessary); then power wash or use a power nozzle from the mains water supply. This often leads to adverse consequences for any animal drinking such water. Drinking water is a potent source of transfer of infectious fungi, spores, bacteria & viruses in intensive environments, like stables. EquiSept® solutions are highly effective and safe in eliminating these organisms. Procedure: 1. Drain entire water system. Where algae growth & biofilm has accumulated, this should be physically removed from the tanks, and the pipe-work flushed with an acid cleaner (e.g. vinegar). 2. The entire system should then be flushed out to remove debris. 3. EquiSept® should then be added to the header tank at a dosage of 30ppm (i.e. 1 tablet in 100 litres water) and the entire system filled with this solution. 4. Allow to stand for 30 minutes. 5. The system is then drained and refilled with fresh water.
